Getting Rid of Static Cling
Static cling is kind of like that annoying fly that stalks you, taunts you, mocks you and literally dive bombs your head every second you turn around. The more you swat at it and mess with it, the more determined it is to bug the fire out of you until you finally surrender in exasperated exhaustion.
So, maybe that’s somewhat of an ever-so-slight exaggeration; but nonetheless, static cling can be a very real pain in the neck. But before we can begin to tackle this bothersome nuisance, we have to understand what causes static cling to begin with. In basic terms, static cling is caused when clothes rub together and it’s especially problematic when humidity is low.
The most obvious solution to prevent and get rid of static cling is to run a humidifier in your home, especially during the colder winter months. That may not be practical though. But there are also a few other little things that you can do to send the cling packing
In the washing machine you can…
· Add ¼ cup baking soda to laundry before starting the wash cycle.
· Toss in a couple of balls of aluminum foil.
In the dryer you can…
· Take clothes out of the dryer before they are completely dry.
· During last 10 minutes of dry cycle, switch to lowest heat setting and toss in a damp rag.
After the dryer you can…
· Give clothes a quick shake as soon as you take them out of the dryer.
· Spray dry clothes with a very fine mist of distilled water as soon as you take them out of the dryer.
While wearing clothes you can…
· Hook a safety pin inside of the piece of clothing causing the static cling.
· Put on a thin layer of moisturizing lotion on skin that is under the clothing with static cling.
So there you have it, eight easy-to-do tips from Mr. Appliance that will help you get rid of static cling once and for all.
